People Aren’t Homes

A beautiful and authentic, thought-provoking poem by Nikita Gill

I found this on social media, and ever since I have read it, it keeps coming back to me, making me realise how foolishly I told him that he was my home when nothing could be farther from the truth.

People change, they flow, and they disappear, taking away everything you have inside them—all the love you have given him and all the care you have sent their way. How starkly true.

Your home is not for anyone else, not your partners, your children, or your work. The magic lies within.

Reading this again and again hits home pretty deep; it hurts and pinches too, but it’s about time the universe sent this thought my way.

Stop pining, stop hoping, and stop expecting that someday he will be your home. Find one within you. Be your own home.
